Guiyang develops as city for high-end retail, shopping

Guiyang city – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – is targeting developing as a high-end retail and premium shopping center and has made substantial progress in achieving its ambition, according to local officials.

They said statistics showed that last year, Guiyang constructed nine middle and high-end retail markets, shopping centers and pedestrian malls, covering a sales area of 988,000 square meters with a total investment of 10.98 billion yuan ($1.57 billion).

According to the city's development blueprints, Guiyang has promoted the construction of commercial shopping areas in Zhonghua Road and Yan'an Road, Guizhou Shuanglong Airport Economic Development Zone, Shijicheng area, Huaxi Lake area, Jinrongchen area and other secondary areas.

Guiyang has launched commercial shopping area construction plans and guided markets and pedestrian malls to upgrade to provide better shopping experience.

While closely following coronavirus epidemic prevention and control measures, Guiyang has nonetheless grasped the new trends in consumer demand and has developed online shopping and services to further stimulate retail spending.

Officials said the city has worked with business areas and streets to issue shopping discount coupons and held sales promotions and launched policies designed to boost  the commercial vitality of the metropolis.

Moving forwards, Guiyang will continue to closely track consumer and retail trends to provide high-end products and services, contributing to Guizhou's high-quality economic growth, they added.
