During a video meeting between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Justicialist Party of Argentina held on Aug 12, representatives from Southwest China's Guizhou province shared their experience with poverty alleviation during the novel coronavirus epidemic.

According to Lu Yongzheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Guizhou CPC Provincial Committee, Guizhou is the main battlefield in China's poverty alleviation campaign. He noted that the province has seen more development in the past 12 months than in the preceding two thousand years – a massive achievement.

Peng Jinbin, vice director of the Poverty Alleviation and Development Office of Guizhou province, said that Guizhou's poverty-stricken population has decreased from 9.23 million in 2012 to just 308,300 in 2019.

Meanwhile, the poverty headcount ratio has decreased from 26.8 percent in 2012 to 0.85 percent in 2019.

Representatives from Argentina said that discussing Guizhou's experience with poverty alleviation can promote Argentina's economic development and provide future opportunities for Guizhou and Argentina to cooperate on tourism, trade and technology.

Chen Li, director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Guizhou Province, hopes that Guizhou and Argentina can expand cooperation by carrying out more offline activities such as mutual visits of high-level officials, trade meetings and culture and tourism exchanges. Chen also hopes to further collaborate in the fields of science and technology, data, education and infrastructure.
