During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period, Southwest China's Guizhou province focused on solving the drinking water security problem in impoverished rural areas.

So far, over 96.32 percent of Guizhou's rural areas are covered by the centralized water supply, and the tap-water coverage rate has increased to 90.2 percent.

Guizhou has used policy and financial support to improve the water conservancy infrastructure conditions and promote drinking water projects in rural areas.

Guizhou has invested 5.34 billion yuan of provincial funds to solve the drinking water security problem for 7.41 million rural residents – 2.52 million of whom are impoverished people.
