Handicraft project employs 500,000 people in Guizhou

The Jinxiu project, a venture aiming to help women increase their incomes through the handicraft industry, has helped 500,000 people so far, according to a seminar held on Dec 28 in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

The seminar invited cultural experts, famous designers, investment institution representatives, managers of sales platforms and experts from universities and research institutions to offer suggestions for the project.

Since being implemented in 2013, the Jinxiu project has established thousands of handicraft production bases, cultivated 1,354 handicraft companies and cooperatives, employed 500,000 people and generated 6 billion yuan ($918.41 million) output value in the past three years.

The project was included in a report on poverty alleviation for Chinese women that was handed to the United Nations by the All-China Women's Federation. The document noted that Jinxiu is a "landmark project" for its role in helping women to increase their incomes.
