During the Qingming Festival (Tomb-sweeping Day) holiday from April 3 to 5, Southwest China's Guizhou province received 15.25 million visits and achieved 8.61 billion yuan ($1.32 billion) of tourism revenue.

Over the holiday, 1,814 flights arrived and departed from Guizhou with 213,200 passengers, 1,446 trains carried 710,700 passengers to and from Guizhou, and 3.88 million cars traveled to the province on expressways.

Guizhou's scenic spots launched a variety of Qingming Festival activities, including tea picking and tasting, poetry reading, hiking, kite flying and food tasting.

Famous scenic spots such as Huangguoshu Waterfall in Anshun, Fanjing Mountain in Tongren, Qingyan Ancient Town in Guiyang, Xijiang One-thousand-household Miao Village in Leishan county, Wanfeng Peak in Xingyi, the tea gardens in Meitan county and Wushan Canyon in Longli county were tourists' top choices during the holiday.

According to Guizhou's department of culture and tourism, the provincial capital Guiyang was a hot travel destination over the holiday, on par with Sanya, Xi'an, Haikou, Yantai, Zhuhai, Hangzhou, Zhanjiang and Shenzhen.

The travel upsurge is expected to last from the Qingming Festival holiday to May Day holiday (May 1 to 5).

By 5 pm on April 5, Guizhou's tourism-related departments received no accident reports and three tourism complaints, two of which have been dealt with and one is being handled.
