With Shunhai and Changpoling Stated-owned Forest Farms as pilot sites, Guiyang City and Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province are working to improve forest quality in the ring forest belt through a "reforestation + landscaping" approach, aiming to enhance the forest biological landscape, and promote biodiversity.

The project emphasizes considering the forest stand structure, controlling logging volume through measures such as pruning and weeding, and preserving high-quality and distinctive native tree species.

Since the beginning of this year, Guiyang and Guian have nurtured more than 150 small forest plots, harvested over 3,000 cubic meters of timber, and implemented the method over an area of more than 2,000 mu (133.33 hectares).

In terms of improving the landscaping, Changpoling National Forest Park and Luchongguan Forest Park have adopted the "native tree species + rare tree species" model, planting 20 local and precious ornamental tree species.

To date, Guiyang and Guian have improved over 2,000 mu of forest.

In addition, the two regions have also been strict in terms of the quality of seedlings and planting processes, and have arranged for professional technical personnel to conduct on-site inspections of the quantity and quality of seedlings, ensuring that only seedlings that meet design requirements are planted on the mountain.

Since the beginning of this year, 610 substandard seedlings have been rejected, while over 21,300 seedlings have been successfully planted. And multiple measures such as supporting trees for reinforcement and suspending nutrient solutions have been taken to ensure the survival of trees.

Next, Guiyang and Guian will implement a precise forest quality enhancement project, steadily improving forest quality. By the end of the year, they plan to complete the precise enhancement of forest quality on over 4,000 mu of land.
