At war with poverty


Few people used the narrow road in the mountain town of Moudao before 2011. People in the area could barely harvest enough food to eat from the limited farmland, which supported only potatoes and corn. This forced 80 percent of adults to move away to make a living, says Qin Taixiang, a local writer who has chronicled the town’s development for many years.

Village beats poverty, disabilities


Lequn, a poor, remote settlement tucked away in the mountains surrounding Liupanshui in Guizhou province, has about 4,000 residents, nearly 10 percent of whom have physical disabilities — almost double the national average.

Guiyang to host big data industry expo


The 2017 China International Big Data IndustryExposition will be held onMay 2629 at the Guiyang International Convention Center inGuizhou province. More than 400 enterprises will take part in the event, which covers an exhibition area of 60,000 squaremeters.

Spinning for a record


A total of 331 women are thought to have set a new Guinness World Record on Wednesday by simultaneously using spinning wheels to make thread, organizers said. The event, at a school in Wangmo county, in the Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture.
