Paradise for rare birds flourishes in Guizhou

Situated at the confluence of the Beipanjiang, Nanpanjiang and Hongshuihe rivers, Wangmo county in Xingyi, Guizhou province, covers a land area of 3,018 square kilometers and has a reputation as a natural ecological barrier for the Pearl River system.

With the construction of the 48-hectare Beipanjiang National Wetland Park, Wangmo has made a name for itself as a paradise for rare birds.

In recent years, Wangmo has carried out a number of ecological protection projects, including the planting of trees and returning a great deal of farmland to forest. It can now be called a forest city, with coverage exceeding 70 percent.

Among other things, it attracts flocks of pond-herons, whose voices echo near the lakes and rivers as they fly.
