Guizhou takes measures to improve livelihoods

The Guizhou Provincial Development and Reform Commission announced the status of progress on 10 projects for this year related to improving people's livelihoods on Oct 12, with the projects including a total of 17 tasks. By the end of September, five of the tasks had been completed in advance.

The 10 projects are as follows:

1. Building, rebuilding and expanding 100 public kindergartens.

2. Improving the quality and capacity of 40 county-level medical institutions to better serve local residents. Fifteen institutions have finished the task and the remaining 25 are near completion.

3. Transforming and upgrading 50 nursing homes, and adding 10,000 nursing beds. The transformation and upgrading work on four nursing homes have been completed, with 93 still under construction and 34 completing the bidding work. About 1,194 nursing beds have been added.

4. Launching vocational skills training for 1 million people, helping 700,000 rural laborers find employment, and offering jobs to 60,000 people struggling to find employment. The vocational skills training has now reached 624,200 people, 668,900 people have found employment in urban areas and 49,500 people struggling to find work have gotten jobs.

5. Selecting and sending 2,000 technical workers to rural areas to improve agricultural technologies, and appointing 100 supervisors from all kinds of industries to promote rural revitalization. A total of 2,256 technical workers have been sent to rural areas. The first group of 100 supervisors has been appointed and the selection of the second group is underway.

6. Building a provincial-level geological museum and opening it to the public for free. The museum was completed in June and opened to the public in August. It has received over 100,000 visitors so far.

7. Renovating old residential areas home to 168,000 households and building 30,000 public parking spots. About 761 renovation projects involving 168,000 households have been started. And around 38,379 public parking spots have started construction, with 31,633 already completed.

8. Establishing 100 comprehensive cultural and service demonstration sites for the relocation of impoverished residents, and renovating 100 toilets in scenic spots. About 98 demonstration sites have finished construction and 77 toilets have been renovated.

9. Renovating 1,500 kilometers of village roads to improve safety, along with 150 unsafe bridges. About 3,150 km of roads are currently under renovation and construction work on 1,460 km of roads has been completed. About 175 bridges are under renovation and 71 have been completed. The remaining 104 are under construction.

10. Building 150 emergency rescue stations in villages and towns, and 2,000 emergency broadcast systems in villages. Construction work on about 86 emergency rescue stations has finished and 1,709 emergency broadcast systems have been completed.
