To celebrate World Environment Day, which falls on June 5 each year, the ecology and environment department of Southwest China's Guizhou province released a bulletin on June 3 outlining Guizhou's ecological environment status for 2019.

The bulletin showed that 98 percent of Guizhou's main river monitoring sections were above Grade III, the third-highest in China's five-tier quality system for surface water, an increase of 0.6 percentage points.

The 23 drinking water sources in Guizhou's nine cities achieved a 100 percent water quality standard rate, while the 136 drinking water sources in 74 counties reached a 99.8 percent water quality standard rate.

In terms of air quality, 98 percent of the days in nine key cities had good air quality, an increase of 0.3 percentage points, while the good air quality in 88 cities, counties and districts was 98.3 percent, an increase of 0.6 percentage points.

Guizhou's overall ecological quality was rated as "good" in 2019, while Chishui city, Jinping, Liping, Rongjiang, Leishan, Taijiang and Jianhe counties' ecological quality were rated as "excellent".

The acoustic environment in nine key cities reached a rate of 98.3 percent of standard in the daytime, and 80.2 percent in the nighttime.

Radiation pollution sources in the province were within the risk controllable range, and the electromagnetic radiation level around electromagnetic radiation facilities was normal in general.

In the future, environment departments at all levels will focus on rectifying environmental problems, controlling environmental pollutants, promoting infrastructure and poverty alleviation projects, investing in reducing ecological risks, launching an environmental management system, and including ecological environmental protection in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025).
