Southwest China's Guizhou province recently issued 61.86 million yuan ($9.21 million) of special funds to develop its featured tea industry.

The funding will be used to construct tea production lines, tea garden improvements and tea industry promotional activities.

Governments at all levels should strengthen supervision to ensure the fund is used for these special purposes. Plans should be made which specify the project implementer, implementation scale, project location, project progress and fund allocation schedule.

With tea as one of the 12 featured industries, Guizhou has 7 million mu (466,666.67 hectares) of tea gardens, ranking the first in China for eight continuous years.

Since the beginning of this year, Guizhou's tea industry has achieved rapid growth despite the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic. By the end of August, Guizhou had produced 341,400 metric tons of tea with an output value of 44.23 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.67 percent and 10.76 percent, respectively.

Guizhou has become the raw material base and processing center of China's tea industry, and is transforming from a province of tea quantity to a province of tea quality.
