Guizhou increases edible fungi farming in Q1-3

Southwest China's Guizhou province has maintained rapid growth in the edible fungi industry in the first three quarters of this year, with the planting of 3.5 billion sticks of edible fungi, an output volume of 1.11 million metric tons and an output value of 14.4 billion yuan ($2.19 billion).

By the end of this year, Guizhou's number of planted edible fungi will exceed 4 billion sticks, ranking among the top 10 in China.

Currently, Guizhou has 85 counties and over 800 companies developing edible fungi to increase farmers' incomes.

As a pillar industry of Guizhou's poverty alleviation and rural revitalization campaigns, edible fungi farming is increasing in Guizhou's 12 poverty-stricken counties and districts.

During the first three quarters of this year, the 12 counties and districts had planted 865 million sticks of edible fungi with an output volume of 227,500 tons and an output value of 3.7 billion yuan.

The edible fungi industry has helped 85,800 impoverished people to increase their incomes by 1,633 yuan per person and provided 139,000 job positions during the first three quarters of 2020.
