This year, the cili industry, or rosa roxburghii industry, has seen rapid growth in Southwest China's Guizhou province. It is estimated that the industry's annual sales value will exceed 1.2 billion yuan ($182.45 million) by the end of 2020.

Guizhou has planted 2 million mu (133,333.33 hectares) of cili with an output volume of 100,000 metric tons this year. The cili juice output volume was 39,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 31 percent, and the output of cili-related products was 26,200 tons with a value of 1.62 billion yuan.

A total of 21,600 tons of cili products have been sold for 920 million yuan.

Thanks to savvy marketing promotions, Guizhou's cili advertisements have appeared on regional and national TV, becoming well-known across China.

By cooperating with major food and beverage companies, Guizhou has launched cili products such as soft drinks, candies, alcoholic beverages, yogurt and fruit vinegar.

With an average purchase price of 2 yuan per 500 grams, Guizhou has encouraged 35 companies to purchase 81,000 tons of cili from farmers, helping farmers to increase their income by 7,000 yuan per household.

Based on the current planting areas, Guizhou plans to establish demonstration planting bases and achieve an output volume of 130,000 tons of cili next year.

Guizhou will also help 12 companies achieve annual revenue of 200 million yuan, launch 10 kinds of key cili products and achieve a sales value of over 2 billion yuan in cili products.
