During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), Southwest China's Guizhou province has seen significant improvements in its road infrastructure, high-speed railway development, airport construction and shipping lines – with many new routes opening to traffic.

In 2017, Guizhou became one of the first provinces in West China to cover every village with roads. The achievement was completed three years ahead of schedule.

By the end of 2020, Guizhou's total length of expressways reached 7,600 kilometers. Guizhou also renovated 4,664 km of national and provincial highways, mended and built 60,000 km of roads in rural areas and built 18 world-class bridges.

From 2016 to 2020, Guizhou created 298 km of shipping lines, bringing the total length of shipping lines to 3,957 km, including 1,000 km of high-level shipping lines.

Meanwhile, the total length of highways in Guizhou's 66 counties that shook off poverty increased from 3,797 km in 2016 to 5,640 km in 2020, an increase of 48 percent, and the total length of roads in those counties increased from 149,000 km to 164,000 km.

During the past five years, Guizhou successfully created 44 pairs of demonstration expressway service areas, built comprehensive passenger terminals and level-one passenger stations in all of the province's nine cities and prefectures.

Also, Guizhou's 88 counties are all equipped with passenger stations, and electronic toll collection systems cover all expressways.
