During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Southwest China's Guizhou province plans to build the Guiyang-Guian-Anshun metropolitan area and Zunyi metropolitan area, according to Guizhou's economic and social development plan released on Feb 27.

The Guiyang-Guian-Anshun metropolitan area will center on Guiyang's downtown area. It will cover Guian New Area and the surrounding areas of Qingzhen city, Xiuwen county, Kaiyang county, Xifeng county, Guiding county, Longli county, Huishui county, Changshun county, Xixiu district, Pingba district, Puding county, Zhijin county and Qianxi county.

Guizhou envisions the Guiyang-Guian area becoming a megalopolis with more than 5 million permanent residents in its urban area and 10 million permanent residents in the metropolitan area.

The Zunyi metropolitan area will center on Zunyi's downtown area and cover Renhuai city, Tongzi county, Suiyang county, Meitan county and Jinsha county. Zunyi will have 2 million permanent residents in its urban area and 5 million permanent residents in the metropolitan area.

Guizhou will also support other cities and prefectures to develop their central and major cities into metropolitan areas and boost the development of the surrounding areas.

Guizhou will adjust the administrative divisions of towns and townships and establish 100 provincial featured towns and small-towns by 2025.
