The sixth Guizhou Zunyi International Chili Expo was reportedly postponed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic and will now be held on Sept 25-27 in the Xinpu New Area of Zunyi – a city located in Southwest China's Guizhou province.

This year's expo will include the annual conference of the chili industry committee, the opening ceremony, a review of chili projects, investment promotions and a product exhibition.

Online registration for the expo was opened on Sept 6 and runs to Sept 18.

Chili is one of Zunyi's pillar industries – involving the entire supply chain from cultivation to R&D, processing, trading, marketing, brand building, as well as conferences and exhibitions.

Zunyi's annual chili plantation area covers more than 2 million mu (133,333.33 hectares), which is 40 percent of Guizhou's total area under chili cultivation, 8 percent of China's total and 3 percent of the world's total.

Zunyi has the most land under cultivation among China's main chili-producing areas and it also boasts more than 50 high-quality chili varieties.

Plans are for Zunyi to construct an international chili processing and trading center, and it reportedly already has a huge technological investment in the chili industry.
