In 2023, Southwest China's Guizhou province plans to invest 115 billion yuan ($16.72 billion) in road and water transportation, including the construction of 200 kilometers of expressways, 100 km of national highways, and 500 km of tertiary roads or above in counties and towns.

Guizhou's investment in road and water transportation was 113 billion yuan in 2022, an increase of 25 percent year-on-year.

In 2022, Guizhou constructed 44,000 km of roads and had 209,000 km of roads open to traffic. The province has formed a road network consisting of provincial highways, national highways, county- and township-level roads, and village-level roads.

Located on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, Guizhou is home to a typical karst mountainous landscape, with most of its land area mountainous or hilly. In recent years, it has given priority to transportation construction and built bridges and roads to improve its comprehensive transportation network.

To better benefit the people in mountainous areas and stabilize employment, Guizhou will also ensure the employment of more than 20,000 road guards, build 5,000 km of security projects for highways, and renovate 200 dilapidated bridges.
