The National Health Commission held a press conference in Yancheng, East China's Jiangsu province, on May 23, to promote medical reform in Sanming, East China's Fujian province.

At the conference, Zunyi in Southwest China's Guizhou province introduced its achievements after learning from Sanming. Adapting to local conditions, Zunyi has promoted the expansion and balanced distribution of high-quality medical resources, making it easier for locals to see a doctor.

In 2023, the city's health expenditure accounted for 13.4 percent of the city's general public budget expenditure, which is relatively high.

Officials from the municipal and county-level health, medical insurance, and medical product departments regularly collect, organize, consult, and resolve issues related to medical reform.

For example, Zunyi recently made adjustments to medical services and prices, ensuring that prices reflect the labor value of medics without increasing the burden on patients.

High-quality medical resources from within and outside Guizhou have been introduced to enhance the quality of city-level hospitals and their ability to treat serious illnesses.

Zunyi's mountainous areas and hills account for a large proportion of its total area, making it difficult to guarantee medical and health services in rural areas.

In order to meet the medical needs of residents of mountainous areas, three urban medical groups have been formed to improve the service capabilities of district and township (sub-district) level medical and health institutions.
