Since the national implementation of the "China Traditional Villages" protection list system in 2012, 757 villages in Southwest China's Guizhou province have been included. These villages account for 9.3 percent of the national total and rank among the top in the country.

From 2020 to 2024, Guizhou's Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture, along with Libo county, Shiqian county, Sandu county, and Zhenning county, were selected by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the Ministry of Finance to be part of the national demonstration areas for concentrated village protection and utilization.

Qiandongnan demonstration prefecture has completed its construction tasks and passed the national on-site evaluation and acceptance. Libo, Shiqian, Sandu, and Zhenning counties have each developed special plans and are progressing with the demonstration construction according to the work requirements.

Guizhou has strengthened funding, policies, and talent, coordinated various efforts, as well as selected and developed 10 traditional village clusters.

A total of 261 demonstration villages were developed, focusing on creating a beautiful environment and a happy life, and 495 digital museums were built and opened to the public.

With their unique spatial layouts, architectural styles, and cultural heritage, these villages have actively contributed to constructing beautiful rural areas and promoting the integrated development of the first, second, and third industries.
