The Guizhou Provincial Government's work report, presented at the third session of the 14th Guizhou Provincial People's Congress on Jan 19, outlines the province's significant progress in 2024.
In the past year, Guizhou's economy saw robust growth, with a 5.3-percent increase in GDP and a 4.4-percent rise in general public budget revenue. The added value of industries above a designated size – those with annual revenues exceeding 20 million yuan ($2.75 million) – grew 8.2 percent year-on-year.
Tourism also flourished, with the province experiencing a 10.4-percent increase in visitor numbers and a 13.3-percent rise in total tourism revenue. Notably, the number of overnight tourists surged by an impressive 81.8 percent.
Environmental quality in Guizhou saw notable improvements, with 99.1 percent of days in major cities meeting excellent air quality standards. Additionally, the water quality of the province's key river outflow sections remained pristine, achieving a 100-percent excellence rating.
In addition, over 600,000 new jobs were created in urban areas, while the number of rural laborers working outside the province remained stable at around 6 million.
