Cheng Yan, a Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) member from Southwest China's Guizhou province and the Hong Kong-Guizhou Culture Exchange Foundation chairwoman, has been promoting exchanges between Guizhou and Hong Kong for many years.
For example, the Hong Kong-Guizhou Culture Exchange Foundation has helped over 80 Hong Kong and Guizhou schools establish sister school relationships. Nearly 1,000 young students from both regions participate in exchange programs each year, and numerous cultural and tourism exchange activities are organized annually to enhance connections and cooperation between the two regions.
Last March, the foundation organized a five-day exchange trip to Guizhou for over 100 primary and secondary school teachers and students from Hong Kong.
In May, the foundation held the 2024 Hong Kong-Guizhou Sister School Sharing Conference in Hong Kong. Over 200 students and teachers shared their experiences of exchanging and learning in Chinese mainland. In July, it hosted the 2024 Guizhou "Duxue Zhufei Plan" for students from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), with 100 university students participating.
Data has become a strategic resource and key production factor as the digital economy rapidly develops. Hong Kong, as an international financial, shipping, and trade center, generates massive amounts of data daily, creating a huge demand for storage.
At this year's national two sessions, Cheng will promote the layout of data centers in Hong Kong and Macao.
