To expand the amount of poverty alleviation aid being offered by East China's Zhejiang province to Southwest China's Guizhou province, senior officials from both regions convened at a symposium on July 30 in Guiyang, capital city of the latter province.

To date, Zhejiang has invested 4.05 billion yuan ($582.72 million) to establish various aid projects in Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture and in Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture.

Representatives from Zhejiang told the symposium their province would make more targeted efforts to help Qiandongnan and Qianxinan shake off their poverty.

Moving forwards, Guizhou's government departments take more action to help on the employment front – as well as help out with industrial assistance and in the tourism sector -- in Qiandongnan and Qianxinan, as well as innovate in their activities to alleviate poverty there.

Before the symposium, representatives from Zhejiang also inspected Qianxinan's Qinglong county and Wangmo county, as well as Qiandongnan's Congjiang county and Rongjiang county.

There, they learned about tackling poverty through business development and employment, training and working with companies.
