Guizhou's poverty relief products top 10b yuan in sales

Southwest China's Guizhou province has achieved a major landmark in alleviating poverty in the region, through agricultural products that have proved extremely popular among consumers.

In the year to end-September, Guizhou sold 10.28 billion yuan ($1.53 billion) worth of poverty alleviation products, benefiting over 1.1 million impoverished people from 83 counties and districts.

Since the start of the year, Guizhou has made efforts to boost consumer spending, to cope with the influence of the COVID-19 outbreak and to consolidate its achievements made in poverty alleviation.

So far, the planting scale for tea, blueberry, plum and rosa roxburghii in Guizhou ranks first in China.

The planting area and sales volume of chili peppers also ranks first in the nation and the planting area and output volume of vegetables has significantly increased.

Some 5,232 varieties of goods have been officially certified as poverty alleviation products, involving 2,214 suppliers from 83 counties and districts, with a total product value of 86.82 billion yuan in the year to end-September.

With its expanding market, Guizhou now has six cities and prefectures listed as secondary vegetable supply centers for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with 57 agricultural product producers recognized as direct suppliers for the bay area.

Seven cities in East China – which are designated to provide assistance in Guizhou's poverty alleviation – have bought 5.3 billion yuan worth of poverty alleviation products from Guizhou and established special areas to sell Guizhou's products in 280 supermarkets, selling poverty alleviation products worth over 200 million yuan.

In addition, Guizhou has promoted the cooperation between retail companies, producers and farmers to help 5.8 million impoverished people from 1.5 million families to increase their incomes.
