China's first virtual toll station was put into operation at the Duyun-Anshun Expressway's Yunwu toll station, in Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Oct 13.

Compared to traditional toll stations, the virtual model features an integrated system of cameras, screens and other equipment. It is more stable, reliable and can cut costs.

Building virtual toll stations can reduce construction costs by around 20 percent, increase the transaction success rate from 99.5 percent to 99.92 percent, overcome common technical problems that regularly impact traditional toll stations, and improve the deployment of hardware and software. The new virtual toll stations are also easier to maintain, delivering further efficiencies.
